2026-27 Design, Build, Fly Rules - aiaa.org
Weight that is added to the sensor to achieve a desired mission weight must be internal to the sensor (i.e., the added weight is not visible in the mission/flight configuration).

DBF Rules 2025 Final v02 - aiaa.org
The actual weight of the X-1 test vehicle may be modified for each mission attempt up to the maximum allowable weight. Teams may bring multiple X-1 test vehicles to the competition to achieve a desired mission score for any mission attempt.

Sizing question : r/DesignBuildFly - Reddit
Maybe you are mistaken - AIAA DBF teams build planes that weight (MTOW) between 5 and 30lbs. I don't know what competition you guys are from, but theres no way in hell we are getting our ands on an RTG.

Battery Cell-to-Pack Scaling Laws for Electric Aircraft
Two assumptions are typically made when predicting battery weight; firstly that for a given pack architecture, that weight of the pack will scale linearly with the energy required.

2021DBF_UniversityOfFlorida_DESIGN_REPORT backup
For the aerodynamic, structural, and system designs, each factor was assigned a weight based on its contribution to the overall design. A scale of 1, 0, and -1 was used to quantitatively assess the positive, neutral, and negative performance of a component, respectively.

DESIGN BUILD FLY - Cornell University
This document serves as the Cornell University Design Build Fly team’s design report for the 2021-22 AIAA Design Build Fly competition, detailing the team’s design, analysis, manufacture, and testing of a remote-controlled electric aircraft designed for humanitarian missions of vaccine delivery.

GitHub - Bulnabi-SNU/DBF2025_FORCAST: Fixed-wing RC Aircraft Sizing ...
Although the code is structured for the AIAA DBF 2025 mission, it can be easily modified to suit individual objectives. Detailed information on the code structure is provided on the following website.

AIAA DBF Final Report - scholarspace.library.gwu.edu
In model aircrafts, the weight and size limits are crucial to ensure that the motor of the aircraft is powerful enough to provide the necessary thrust and the batteries can provide the necessary input.

Estimation of Battery Pack Layout and Dimensions for the Conceptual ...
This paper proposes a method to estimate the battery pack size and dimensions suitable for conceptual design. The battery layout is defined based on individual cells grouped to form many modules that form the overall pack.

AIAA DBF - 1999 - ROBERT "RIP" RIPPEY - MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
No limit was placed on battery weight. The wingspan limit was 9 feet. Notes of interest: Our extra effort in composing the design report led to it receiving the highest score. Technical difficulties with the landing gear and propulsion system brought our final ranking down to 5th place, though.
